Peabody Veterans Memorial High School

The Visual Arts Department of Peabody Veterans Memorial High school is very comprehensive. Itoffers twenty courses of various subjects including photography and television poducion classes.

There are classes in fine arts which include drawing, painting, print making anddesign, and hese prepare the student for the most demanding class which is history ceramics, digital imaing, animation, and graphic design.

Most of the classes are semester classes which meet for 20 weeks, while the more advanced classes are every day for a full year. Each class lasts 45-5 minutes. Some classes have prerequisites that need to be met in order to take the second level.

The department consists of 7 faculty members each of whom teach three subjects per semester. Classes contain from 14-20 students depending on the subject and locaton. Of the total student population in the high schoo, over half take classesin the visual arts.

Many of the seniors prepare portfolios for admission to art schools and universities and several have become art teachers, even returning to the school from which they graduated.

Our students have receivedprestigious awards for their art and recently one received free tuition at Rhode Island School of Design. The student art work is exhibited annually at the school as well as throughout the community during the schoolyear.
